BIOGRAPHY

Mellissa Read Devine was born in England and emigrated to Australia as a child. She now lives in rural Sydney overlooking the Hawkesbury River, where she practises painting and printmaking, honing her vibrant optimistic art in harmony with the natural landscape.

Read-Devine’s style is distinctive with her electric palette and layered application of brush strokes. Her work has evolved to a macropointilist style, celebrating shape, colour and brushstrokes of contemporary impressionism. These idiosyncratic characteristics come together to create pieces that are sought after by both Australian and international collectors alike.

Viewers can expect to be captivated by the powerful immediacy and extraordinary colour emerging from Read-Devine’s paintings. They are visually spectacular and invite consumers to search for the layered harmony with and empathy for nature that the artist enigmatically imbues in her work.

An Associate of the Royal Art Society of NSW, Mellissa Read-Devine is a fine art tutor and travels to teach art enrichment workshops around the world.

“The process of painting is joy for me. Florals and landscapes are all around us and with them I never have to struggle for inspiration. I invite the viewer into my world to see contemporary scenes in rich optical mixes of brushstroke and hue.”

Among her career achievements Read-Devine, most recently, placed highly commended with a medal of distinction in the Royal Art Society NSE. She also awarded first place at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and has received eleven award placements for various exhibitions across New South Wales.
