Artist Biography

Joaquin Valdez is a self-taught artist currently based in Chicago. Originally from Lima, Peru, he spent four years in Spain, where he earned a First Class Honours degree in Advertising and Public Relations. Leveraging the visual skills honed during his professional career, Joaquin transitioned into freelance artistry, completing numerous commissioned canvas pieces and launching his artistic journey.

Valdez’s background in marketing and advertising is evident in his work, which is characterized by strong form, line, design, and striking colour. Drawn to the nuances of everyday life, his subjects and compositions create a powerful, emotive, and easily interpreted visual narrative.

Valdez’s art is undeniably beautiful. His signature style is defined by a unique and seemingly random yet systemic juxtaposition of opposing colours. His subtle use of light breathes life into oddly familiar scenes, viewed from a somewhat obscure perspective, and adds a sense of dimensionality.

With a progressive approach and a focus on “perseverance, passion, and creativity,” Joaquin Valdez is an artist to watch. His work is represented in Denmark, London, Hong Kong, Australia, and the U.S., and continues to attract the attention of established collectors worldwide.
