BIOGRAPHY

Remy Uno’s creative prowess began in the late nineties in the form of graffiti. In 2002 he established a collective of artists that has been invited to exhibit what has been described as “artistic and small samples of vandalism” in many cities around the world such as Sao Paulo, New York, Caracas, Moscow, London, Johannesburg, Mexico and Yaoundé.

More recently, Uno has focused on developing his independent studio work, where he creates intimate portraits that aim to deepen his human subjects, through idiosyncratic situations and simple stories. The artist dissects and cuts bodies with light, colour and energetic movement, a technique that deconstructs the expected and builds a new neo-expressionist reality.

The mastery of Uno’s work extends beyond technique. He creates a fragmented reality that eludes to Pop and Comic genres. This fragmentation allows the viewer to take pause within each fraction, assessing the amalgam of colour and movement.  Uno’s work is reminiscent of the confidence and colour of his urbran art origins, and takes heed from American David Walker and Spanish Gonzalo Borondo. Described as an “urban poet” who, on his canvases, creates an implosion where subjects and background merge into a single entity.

Inspired by the strength and power of Rembrandt, with the light of landscapes emblematic of Turner, the decomposition of Alex Kanevsky, and the compositions of Dan Voinea or Conor Harrington, Uno has exhibited his work in group shows in Holland, Italy, Spain and of course his native France.
