As subjective as it is distinctive, “Surrealism” is an artistic genre that has the potential to both shock and delight – all at once and in equal measure. This selection of work does just that. You’ll tilt your head trying to make sense of it. Widen your eyes at the tantalising combination of nonsensical objects and opposing colours. Pulling a stream of subconscious imagery out from within, like the scarf wielding magician, these accomplished surrealists will have you questioning what is real and challenging the interaction between what you know and what you perceive. Does our body define our identity or does what we adorn it with? Is the whole greater than the sum of it’s parts, or, just like a chair are well each just a compilation of atoms? Is there really any separation between people, place and time, or do we run on a continuum, one thing endlessly related to the next?
