Melissa Read-Devine – Immersed

Mellissa Read Devine was born in England and emigrated to Australia as a child.  She now lives in rural Sydney overlooking the Hawkesbury River, where she practises painting and printmaking, honing her vibrant optimistic art in harmony with the natural landscape.

Read-Devine’s style is distinctive with her electric palette and layered application of brush strokes. Her work has evolved to a macropointilist style, celebrating shape, colour and brushstrokes of contemporary impressionism. These idiosyncratic characteristics come together to create pieces that are sought after by both Australian and international collectors alike.

About this exhibition Mellissa says: “In the world of my arts practice, I endeavour to spend more and more time in the studio or on walks surrounded by my beloved bush landscape. I imagine, experience, study and strive to create the joy of colour and the act of painting.

This small collection of works are a touchstone of what elicits from me a smile, a delight in landscape and it’s noisy denizens that I constantly seek out, to gaze upon in appreciation.”
