AMANDA SHELSHER – Nature Nurture
Hosted By 19 KAREN
May 11th - June 8th, 2013
My new ceramic sculptures draw inspiration from my love of nature and my experiences as a mother.
Pieces that will reflect the joy and frenetic energy of my two young children. The works also explore the relationship between motherhood and the life-cycles of nature by using plants and motifs from the natural world as metaphors for life.
My female forms are autobiographical and are strongly influenced by my observations of our instinctive and nurturing nature. They also tell my stories of my love of home life, domesticity and our family’s love of the environment – and a child’s frequent exploration of the minutiae of life. Their joy in finding patterns in a leaf. The thrill of finding fruit and figs on our trees and the variety of insects and birdlife that exists in our garden.
