THE RAGE WE BURIED ON OUR THRONE (PT. 1)
Acrylic on canvas
50 x 50 cm
Artist statement: “I own 5 cats and 2 dogs that is why I always include them in my works. The painting is actually Inspired upon watching a Drama Series of Fishbowl Wives, adapted from a popular adult manga which focuses on extramarital affairs. A study on independence, resiliency, and ultimately the role women are expected to play for their husbands. It’s an exploration of societal pressures and gender expectations through infidelity. The image I create is the silent mundane moments they undergo in provocative nudity. It’s into the viewer’s eye if they would like to sympathise with it and if they could figure out what’s on the subject’s mind during her mundane moments.”
“When we do not expand our minds, we outgrow our present reality, creating a life full of lingering unrest and limitation. Only when we face discomfort and sit with it consciously, can we make choices, even difficult choices, that transcend the sub-conscious and resonate with us on a deeper level; do you sacrifice one beloved pet to feed another? Comfort is contemporary society’s default way of being. This relentless avoidance of discomfort inhibits our evolution as a humanity and consequently the possibility for the great natural beauty that awaits us beyond our growth edge.”– Jane Cuevas
