Artist Statement – “I painted this artwork during one of Sydney’s lockdowns. I wanted to truly reflect that feeling of being stuck inside, but also looking from the outside in. Going from seeing the beautiful iconic Sydney Harbour and the Opera House each day to then feeling like it had been forever since I had seen it – this was the Harbour and Opera House in my dreams, my imagination ran wild thinking about that beautiful space. 

During lockdown I would do a lot of walking and often see people sitting in windows looking out to the world. This woman is juxtaposed and it’s confusing trying to work out if she’s inside or outside. That feeling of confusion was with me throughout the lockdown time. The rainbow is a true symbol of hope – the colours show the positivity and wishful thinking for the future to be a positive one. Even though some days were dark, if you search hard, you can find a small ray of hope, or perhaps a rainbow, in each day.”
