Artist Statement:
I studied color theory, painting and anatomy drawing at Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design in Vancouver Canada and these interests have become an integral part of my work. The figures in my work are a representation of our past as I try to shed a light on their individual stories and bring them into the spotlight of modern times. I feel our past is always with us and there are so many untold stories that are unveiled in my work. I use acrylic paint mixed with traditional drawing techniques in much of my work because there is a softness in the pen work that compliments the stark forms and color of the acrylic paint. When I start a new painting I begin with a feeling and feature by feature the subject begins to form and with every brush stroke and pen mark their story unfolds before me. Capturing emotion and a feeling of strength is very important to me. The subjects in my work are meant to captivate you and leave you wanting to know more. The random collaboration of old and new is what inspires me most. It is the mixture of traditional and unconventional that attracts us and takes us on a fresh new journey.
