Biography

Scott Redford is a pop culture sculptor from Australia’s Gold Coast. Redford is renowned for his ironic interpretations of the tourist mecca that is his hometown. His practice simultaneously subverts and champions mainstream popular culture. Redford acquired his unique pop art style from pervasive icon Andy Warhol and teamed it with themes from the regionalism crisis of Australian modernism, resulting in a localised yet universal approach to the vernacular.

Redford’s “My beautiful polar bear” series of high-gloss, ceramic sculptures capture the artifice and excessiveness of the Gold Coast – an urban mix of pop culture and decadence. Aesthetically pleasing yet frivolous objects, Scott throws an ironic glance at one of Australia’s most infamous tourist towns.

Nationally and internationally acclaimed, the artist has exhibited widely in Australia, Europe and South-East Asia. His work is represented in major Australian collections including the National Gallery of Victoria and QAGOMA.
