Artist Biography

Danish artist, Laust Højgaard, paints grotesque yet humorous contemporary figurative art.

Laust’s approach is impulsive working directly on the canvas from imagination. Building layers with semi-dried paint to create depth and intriguing details, his work captivates and draws the eye.

With a background in classical drawing, croquis and graphic design, Laust has pushed himself to detach from the “classic approach” and developed his own way of working.

Laust finds inspiration in the dark corners of subculture, pop culture/fashion, horror movies and music.  You can find details like scratches, small messages and symbols in his pieces referring to everything from cult movies to prison gang slang.
