John Santucci

John Santucci

A sea change from Melbourne to Byron Bay launched John Santucci’s art career in a new direction. Moving away from his surreal cityscapes and whimsical caravans, John’s growing garden grabbed at his imagination.

He planted madly, and his botanical series is inspired by the fruits of that labour – a serene contemplation of form composition and natures incredible beauty.

After many years working in the film and television industry, and pursuing his artistic pursuits, a change in his surroundings bought with it a change in the direction of John Santucci’s art.

Inspired by his surroundings, but not wanting to pursue the typical Byron Bay seascapes and lighthouses, he chose a subject that was closer to home – his own garden.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Moving to Byron Bay a few years ago my work was mainly focused on surreal cityscapes and whimsical caravans, new surroundings launched thoughts of new directions. I didn’t want to pursue seascapes and lighthouses, instead I chose a subject that was quite literally staring me in the face.

Our garden was somewhat basic, but Byron’s weather means vegetation grows fast, really fast!

We planted madly, and this series is inspired by the fruits of that labour- a serene contemplation of form composition and natures incredible beauty.
