Hugh Ford

Represented Artist

Hugh Ford is an emerging and sought-after Australian artist whose work is best described as innocent and impulsive. An RMIT graduate, Ford began his career in Melbourne as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator. In 2004 he moved to Sydney to continue his work in design and illustration, in styles ranging from pen and ink, vector, paint, pencil and collage.
Often created from beautiful mistakes, his work invokes a gentle comic nostalgia, where extraordinary acts appear as mere trivialities and everyday scenes turn fantastical. The subjects are varied but typically explore fun, whimsical themes, from carnival characters and magicians to arcade machines and team mascots.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Ford’s paintings are created using acrylic paint on canvas. The bold line work is an extension of his sketching and illustrating, and usually provides the focal point for his paintings. Depth is created using layers of texture and a simple colour palette, whilst the absence of certain details leaves the viewer to place their own narrative on the work.

Ford holds private collections in the US, Asia, Europe and Australia, with his more recent commissions being murals for various high profile restaurants and shops in Sydney.

He held his first solo exhibition, Magic Cowboy, in early 2007 and has continued to exhibit in both solo and group shows across Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.
