ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Cameron Haas began his fine art studies at the University of Tasmania and completed them at the National Art School in Sydney, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in 2010. He currently lives and works in Canberra.
His recent work explores the interplay of form and color, characterized by a dynamic balance between defined edges and flat planes of paint. While non-narrative, his compositions evoke a sense of personal narrative through their simple, organic forms. Cameron’s paintings invite a subjective and relational experience, shaped by the interplay between the viewer’s projections and the work’s inherent qualities. Within these seemingly simple compositions, each element—color, tone, shape, intersection, and edge—is meticulously considered and composed, leaving no room for ambiguity.
Each painting originates as a pencil drawing on paper, where the initial composition must possess an uncomplicated authority against the stark white surface. Color is then introduced, guiding the composition towards a resolution of pictorial space.
