BIOGRAPHY
Biel Miralles Flaquer’s studied Fine Arts at the University of Vigo, Spain, later completing a postgraduate degree in Fashion Design. Biel’s creative journey, however, is a deeply soul-led one, rather than an academic or outcome-based endeavour. Accomplished in various mediums and techniques, having trained at various institutions, Biel’s artistic interests were awakened at the age of six guided by his great-aunt, a painter, who introduced him to the arts and painting techniques.
Biel has studied Galician stone carving at the Escola de Canteiros, while working as a surf instructor at Raz surf camp during this time, he also practiced surfboard making a decision that would later direct influence his creative and geographical path. In Mallorca, the artist spent two years creating surfboards under the name “BocBoards” while experimenting with sculpture using various materials such as wood, stone, polyester resin, and berglass. These endeavours culminated in his focus primarily on stone sculpting. In 2024, Biel moved to Byron Bay, Australia, where he solidified his identity as an artist.
His latest works draw inspiration from ancient civilizations, conveying messages for the present and future and are deeply connected to mysticism and humanist spirituality. Although aesthetically there are remnant whispers of his previous life, with his sculptural art and furniture embodying the geometric lines and function of surfboards and the assertive, organic, presence of stone.
Consciousness is a recurring theme in his work, as Biel views art as a key to accessing higher levels of awareness. The meditative process of contemplating his own essence and that of the universe plays a crucial role in the development of his art. In his practice, Biel ponders, “If you were told that future archaeologists would study your objects, what objects would you want them to find? And if I told you that future archaeologists would study your emotions, what emotions would you want to feel?”
Biel has worked on numerous private commissions and sold work around the globe.
