Angie Goto is an Australian artist with a unique figurative, abstract interpretation of her surroundings. She was born deaf so art provides her with a vehicle to explore colour and images from another perspective. She enjoys working with her hands and over the years has successfully made and sold handmade products in ceramics, glassware, clothing, art and giftware in Australia and England. Painting has become her full time occupation as it allows her unlimited creative control. Mastering the art of lip reading and speech, Angie can now communicate on all levels but ultimately finds inspiration from the world through the meditative silence of her mind. Angie studied Fine Art and Graphic Design in Newcastle and Sydney.
Angie’s return to painting was heralded by her Tropfest film titled “Angie” which was a Finalist in 2015.
In 2016 she held two successful exhibitions in Surry Hills and Leichhardt which led to her total commitment to painting. Angie was chosen to be an Art Educator by The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia for their special projects aimed at the deaf and hearing impaired.
