Artist Biography

Artist Alma Sarac graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina with the equivalent of Honours degree.  Returning to Australia, Sarac has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and was finalist in the city’s Portrait prize in 2019.

Sarac’s work unifies hero subjects with echoed composition that is emblematic of the nature of moments and memory that, although are fleeting relative to the chasm of time, have lasting effect. Her imagery is fluid, it is not stagnant, and therein lies the emotive power in Sarac’s work; its subjective ability to adapt to the viewer. While evidently highly personal, Sarac’s work imbues story that has the capacity to make myriad connections with an array of consumers. Similarly, her colour pallete and technique are serene yet evocative, making her work engaging and broadly captivating.

The artist states, “My art is influenced by cultures, atmosphere and colours of places where I lived. I use combination of modern and classical painting techniques to create a visual diary of the world around me.”

Sarac has exhibited in Jakarta, Kuala Lumpar, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns, Sydney, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
