SUSAN SIMONINI – Something More
Hosted By 19 Karen
August 29th - September 19th, 2009
Susan’s new series is a refreshing take on life in the suburbs. Her labour intensive works juxtapose graffiti, cinema stills, advertising and popular culture to reveal something of the frustrations and humour of the mythology surrounding the contemporary ‘super-mother’.
“Most of the art I create comes from my own day to day experiences and from a close and constant observation of my surroundings. In these works I explore life in the suburbs from the point of view of the wife, the mother, the career-woman. Images of the comic-book female superhero portray the battle against the mundane and the ordinary, and explore associated feelings of anger, frustration and the feeling of being trapped in the suburbs.”
