Artist Biography

Adelaide glass blower and designer Emma Young uses vivid colours in her artworks that serve both function and aesthetics. Emma completed a Bachelor in Visual Arts specialising in Glass at the University of South Australia, mentored by Gabriella Bisetto among many other local artists, and in 2015 was offered a scholarship to the renowned Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, USA gaining valuable practical experience and mentorship.

Young furthered her mastery and experience after completing a two-year training program at iconic craft and design institution, JamFactory. The artist now works out of the institution’s Adelaide glass studio exploring different techniques as she experiments with each new artwork. Young’s artwork has frequently been featured in local and national art prizes and consistently in group exhibitions annually. With artwork collections inspired by flowers, plants, fruit, Australian currency and niche supermarket products, Emma enjoys connecting with her audience by invoking familiarity with her handmade glass pieces. Themes often involve nostalgia, pride in local icons, and personal childhood memories.

Young’s work has been frequently featured in local and national art prizes. The artist also exhibits in numerous group exibitions every year.
