Flora Castiglia from Buenos Aires, Argentina, was exposed to the practice of art from a very young age. Her mother, also an artist, worked from her home studio establishing the ethos of creativity and artistic discipline within Castiglia.

The artist’s first works were interpretations of record covers and artistic designs developed for musicians. Later she studied communication with an orientation in arts. Both these influences inform the subtle undertone of her imagery which may be described as “melodic”, imbued with inference to musical notes in both the form and composition of Castiglia’s organic portrayals.

In her works she mixes the geometry of the natural with the fantasy of the as-yet realised, with notions of a subjective dream state hinted at in her expressions – but whose idealised concepts is she expressing? One would assume that when an artist paints the entirely fictional, these stories are their own, but Castiglia challenges this through the simplicity of nature combined with the complex and ancient evolutionary wisdom it holds.
She states, “Not everything has to be seen as it is. Encrypted information has to be decoded. Nothing is simple and ephemeral nor literal. The information could be misleading, it is necessary to stop for a while to observe. Meaning is underneath.”
