Robyn Leoni Abbott – Everything is Sometimes
Hosted By 19 Karen Contemporary Artspace
August 21st - September 18th, 2021
Robyn Leoni Abbott graduated from Central Metropolitan College in Perth with qualifications in Arts and Design. Abbott’s penchant for colour and design underpins her work, where her expressionist creations pivot on a spectrum of pattern, abstraction, nature and subjectively, her interpretations of the human psyche.
Abbott experiments with inherent contradictions in her designs. She employs a playful and enthusiastic creative methodology which resonates in the aesthetic of her work. Both decorative and emblematic of personal lived experience, Abbott’s work has broad consumer and collector appeal.
Abbott professes, “I am an introvert/extrovert. I am an artist. I like to spend time alone. I don’t like being indoors all day. Time spent in nature is never a waste of time. I struggle with routine. I am easily distracted by loveliness and fun. There are never enough hours in the day for play. I am loaded with contradictions. I am compelled to create. I want more time to dream.” This statement succinctly embodies the essence of her work.
About this exhibition Robyn says: “This series of paintings were created throughout the summer of 2021 Fleeting moments captured and expressed in these semi abstract landscape paintings were fueled by my environment, memory and lifestyle.
The act of painting leads to the joy and challenge of bringing imagination to light and the discovery of fleeting moments that contribute to memory, with the intention to give pleasure over time. Over time memory alters as do the stories that paintings tell.
Everything is sometimes nothing is always.”
