Artist Biography

Joaquin Valdez is a self-taught artist based in Chicago.  Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Joaquin lived in Spain for four years where he obtained his degree in Advertising and Public Relations, graduating with First Class Honours. Following his professional success, Joaquin invested the visual skills he acquired into his vocation as a freelance artist, producing several commissioned pieces on canvas for various clients. This saw the beginnings of Valdez’s artistic career.

Valdez’s background in marketing and advertising, interlaces through his work in form, line, design and striking colour. Attracted to the nuances of everyday life, his subject matter and composition serve to create a strong image driven narrative that is easily translated and highly emotive.

Valdez produces work of significant beauty. His union of opposing colours is random and systemic at once and key to his signature style. His subtle use of light to inject and enliven oddly familiar scenes, from a somewhat obscure perspective, adds a sense of dimensionality.

With a progressive approach and “perseverance, passion and creativity” at the core of his work, Joaquin Valdez is an artist to watch. He is represented in the Denmark, London, Hong Kong, Australia, and the U.S with work continuing to populate established collectors’ circles around the globe.
