Artist Biography

Born in Madrid, Spain, in 1987, artist Marina Gonzalez Eme hasn’t stopped drawing since she was 2 years old.

Graduating in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2011, Marina completed her degree at Wimbledon College of Arts in London. Driven by her passion for drawing, she pursued a degree in illustration to further specialize and explore new forms of communication. During her studies, she developed a unique style, blending personal experiences with emotional, feminist, and expressionistic art.

Marina conveys her ideas and concerns through portraiture and depictions of the female body. While colored pencils on paper have always been a favorite, she is currently expanding her perspective, blurring the lines between drawing and painting. She alternates between her work as an illustrator and her artistic creations on paper and canvas.

Marina’s work is featured in private collections worldwide and has been exhibited in Madrid, Barcelona, London, and Australia.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I’m driven by a deep interest in expressing intense emotions through my art. My focus is primarily on portraits and representations of the female form, where I strive to move beyond conventional beauty standards and avoid objectification. I aim to depict women who embody both vulnerability and strength—natural, powerful figures.

Drawing and painting serve as an outlet for me to explore and release emotions. I’m fascinated by the intricacies of human nature and our often irrational responses. By magnifying these sensations, I capture them in my work, seeking maximum expression through bold strokes and vibrant colors. Ultimately, my ideas manifest through the unclothed body, revealing everything without pretense.

My work is centered on what lies beneath the surface—beyond appearances, aesthetics, fashion, race, or social status. I’m interested in exploring raw feelings, emotional complexity, vulnerability, pain, strength, sadness, self-esteem, sexuality, and our most basic instincts. My goal is to reveal the struggles we all carry within ourselves.
