ARTIST STATEMENT
This piece was painted back in 2015 when I was struggling with health issues. I was told by my rheumatologist that the autoimmune disease I had, if not properly treated would result in a shortened life span. I remember vividly having the doctor tell me “life expectancy with someone with your condition without proper treatment or medication is 30 years of age, however thanks to modern medicine, you can live a long and healthy life.” I felt like I was at a crossroads with fog surrounding me on all sides. I was 22 at the time, unemployed from not being able to work and without any sense of direction. Luckily I reacted well to the medication and made a recovery. It was during this recovery time that we made the connection through instagram and you gave me the opportunity to showcase through your gallery. I remember the first sale I made through you gave me the courage to believe in myself and to finally accept that I am an artist (took me 22 years). I’ve been holding onto this piece and I’ve been reluctant to showcase my surreal work, primarily out of fear and an unwillingness to say goodbye to that chapter in my life. I think it’s time to move past those insecurities and to walk through doors when they are opened.
